Jacob is no stranger to the restaurant business, he grew up in the industry right alongside his father who owns a successful local chain of  Mexican restaurants that have been in business for over 15 years. Jacob was raised learning how to run a restaurant and what good service is all about and has put his own spin on multi-dimensional flavors with dishes you usually don’t find at other area Mexican restaurants.

2) What was the inspiration for your current menu and what ingredients are sourced locally?

My Inspiration for the Mestizos menu was just my upbringing in Mexican Cuisine. My father has been a restaurateur for the past 18 years and to bring Real Authentic Traditional Mexican Entrees and the love for Tex-Mex all to one unique menu.

3) Mestizos has a full bar with Cocktails, Margaritas, and Beer? What are your crowd-pleasers?

Cocktails:    Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Spiked Strawberry Limeade

Margaritas:   Skinny “Mestizos” Margarita

Beer: All Beers but DOS XX Lager tops the List

4) Mestizos serves breakfast all day, do you have plans to open earlier than 10 am?

We plan on opening earlier for breakfast. We are in the process of creating a separate breakfast/lunch menu. Omelets, skillets, Traditional Mexican Breakfast entrees, etc.

5) What is your personal favorite breakfast here?

Chilaquiles with Guajillo salsa topped with Beef Fajita or Huevo con Chorizo torta.

6) What is your personal perfect meal from start to finish here at Mestizos?

Our Delicious Pollo en Mole. It is my absolute favorite meal on the menu (Personal Opinion), I eat it a few times a week till this day.

7) How is Mestizos Mexican Cafe involved in their local community?

We sponsor Local Schools (college park), Montgomery County Precinct 3, and we recently started donating portions of our sales to Montgomery county food bank, teaming up with Nicks Local Eats – Drink For Charity and the local restaurant owners in our area!

8) The taco competition is strong on the northside, what sets yours apart?

The flavor we put into our 12 different meat options, and the Taco salsas we make from scratch to pair just right with every bite.

9) Where did the name Mestizos Mexican Cafe come from?

It was a name my father had used in his first Taqueria he ever opened, which just so happens to be created in a local gas station in our neighborhood. The meaning behind “Mestizos” is just a person who has a mix of two or more different Races. For example, I am 1/2 American and 1/2 Mexican so I am considered to be a Mestizo.

10) We like to ask what’s the locals eating, so what are your top sellers for each category on the menu:

Appetizers: Flautas or Queso Flameado

Entrees: Tacos or Enchiladas

Fajita Dishes: Fajitas Poblanas

Specialty Plates: Pollo en Mole

Soups/Salads: Menudo

Tacos: Beef Fajita or Barbacoa

Burgers: “Mestizos” Burger

Desserts: Tres Leches **Made In-House**

11) Mestizos is already planning an expansion into the next-door space, what do you plan to do differently and what plans do you have for that space?

First and foremost is to create a welcoming atmosphere and adding a “Host” to formally greet and sit guests. Adding the new addition obviously increases capacity but also allows us to create a “Private or Party room” for future Birthdays, Events, and Celebrations. With Completion of the additional space will come our Custom covered patio that will be the tip of the Iceberg.

12) 5 words to describe Mestizos Mexican Cafe:

Authentic – Friendly – Unique – Cozy – Consistent

Mestizos Mexican Cafe is located at 9803 Hwy 242 Suite. 900 in Conroe across from the new Harpers Landing H-E-B.
