Live Local New Dish Spotlight: Southern Fried Chicken and Some Waffles!

Let’s talk about Southern Fried Chicken and some Waffles!

By Nick Rama – Live Local Food Ambassador

Toasted Yolk Cafe has rolled out another new, limited-time menu, “Let’s talk Southern Fried Chicken and Some Waffles!”. Whether you prefer sweet or savory, they have you covered with some innovative food options. And for the Mimosa lovers, try the new Watermelon Mimosa. Our family loves it when TYC rolls out a new seasonal menu, we are usually first in line so we can figure out our favorites and get them a few more times before they introduce the next menu.

Just a little bit about the Toasted Yolk before we get into the new features; their philosophy in their mission statement is “We only use the highest quality products, and make things from scratch daily.” This certainly has proven true on every visit to any of their restaurant locations. Always consistently good food, cocktails, and service.

First up a new take on classic chicken and Waffles, spiked with some heat!

Yolk-style chicken and waffles featuring their house-made chicken tenders fried to perfection. Sandwiched between two TYC famous Belgium waffles, but with a twist. Kicked up a notch with cheddar and jalapeños infused into the waffle batter. To give it a little more heat, they drizzle the chicken with Mike’s Hot Honey. This dish pairs beautifully with Toasted Yolk’s Hashbrown Casserole.

The new chicken and waffle flavors worked so well together. A winning dish for the sweet and spicy all-in-one-bite lover. The waffle was slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy goodness on the inside. Southern as Mee-Maw’s fried chicken tenders, crispy, seasoned, and delicious.

Round two was the Chicken Bacon Ranch Arnold. Hand-breaded classic TYC chicken tenders, topped with sliced tomato, crispy Toasted Yolk Bacon, and avocado slices served on a toasted English muffin. Perfectly cooked poached eggs, and a drizzle of Cholula Ranch.

The Chicken Bacon Ranch is a wonderful play on their already great West Coast Arnold. Fresh avocado instead of guacamole, and instead of Cajun turkey, their awesome chicken strips. What’s awesome about both their Arnold’s, is they have a lovely freshness with the tomato and avocado.  The Arnold’s are served with a side of the word famous Toasted Yolk Cafe hashbrown casserole.

I do want to touch a bit more on the hashbrown casserole, it’s just so dang good. The cheesiness and the shredded potatoes combination have something comforting about it.

Now to their last food feature, is it breakfast, is it dessert, we will let you decide. The Sweet Potato Waffle – Toasted Yolk Cafe knows how to execute a waffle, always crisp on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. Such a simple and delectable waffle with a hint of sweetness from the sweet potato batter. Topped with cinnamon butter, and served with a side of syrup. The Sweet Potato waffle feels like fall on a plate. Once the syrup is mixed with cinnamon butter, the best breakfast – dessert is served.

Let’s talk cocktails – We love The Toasted Yolk Cafe because they have an awesome bar program. Bloody Marys and Mimosas are always stellar here. We had to try the new Watermelon Mimosa, made with watermelon puree. A refreshing morning beverage.

I got Jackie’s Morning Rita, I wanted to try something new that I haven’t had before. I am glad I did! Patron Silver Tequila, orange juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and orange slice. My new favorite brunch cocktail, I highly recommend it for something to go with any of their breakfast, brunch, or lunch options.

My wife went with a new classic Ranch Water – Casamigos Tequila, sparkling water, and lime.

Toasted Yolk Cafe is also participating at two locations for Nick’s Local Eats – Drink For Charity benefiting AAR – Abandoned Animal Rescue. Grand Parkway in Spring and East Shore in The Woodlands.

The Spiked Cold Brew – Signature Cold brew coffee that is brewed in-house for over 16 hours. Served over ice, with vanilla, milk, and 1876 Texas Vodka. Superb! An ideal amount of sweetness and you could definitely taste the kick of the Vodka. Each one sold $1 will be donated to AAR, just another part of what Toasted Yolk does to give back to the community.

All in all this new season of limited-time specials is a must for anyone who loves really great chicken tenders and waffles, TYC did it again by redefining some classics.

More about the Toasted Yolk Cafe –

“Chris Milton and Mathew DeMott opened the first Toasted Yolk Café in 2010. The mission was to provide a unique breakfast and lunch experience that was better than anything else they could find. To achieve that goal, the Toasted Yolk curated chef-inspired menus full of fresh, mouth-watering takes on our favorite foods. We paired them up with delicious juices, coffee creations, and hair-of-the-dog cocktails in a restaurant where fun was the priority.”
