Local Restaurant Spotlight: The Toasted Yolk Cafe Crepes + Chicken & Waffles
The Toasted Yolk Cafe has rolled out a new limited-time trio of crepes + Chicken and Waffles. Sweet or savory they have you covered with some great new options.

Toasted Yolk explains their philosophy in their mission statement as “We only use the highest quality products, and make things from scratch daily.” This certainly proved true on my most recent visit to this restaurant when I invited a few friends to join me for a sampling of Toasted Yolk’s new menu offerings.

“Chris Milton and Mathew DeMott opened the first Toasted Yolk Café in 2010. The mission was to provide a unique breakfast and lunch experience that was better than anything else they could find. To achieve that goal, the Toasted Yolk curated chef-inspired menus full of fresh, mouth-watering takes on our favorite foods. We paired them up with delicious juices, coffee creations, and hair-of-the-dog cocktails in a restaurant where fun was the priority.”
The new limited summertime menu lives up to this statement, because everything we tried from the new menu is fresh, innovative, and fantastic, especially the pairing of the new Hibiscus Mimosa with the Toasted Yolk Cafe take on their Chicken and Waffles.
Arnie Yolk’s Chicken & Waffles – Yolk-Style Chicken and Waffles featuring our made-in-house chicken tenders fried to perfection and sandwiched in between famous Belgium-Style waffle with cheddar cheese and diced jalapeños in the batter…wait, there’s more; the chicken is then generously drizzled with Mike’s Hot Honey for a little bit of extra heat. This is served with the Toasted Yolk Cafe’s famous hashbrown casserole.

Pillowy soft but savory waffles, with some fantastic well seasoned and crunchy fried chicken tenders, with the sweetness and a touch of spice from the Mike’s Hot Honey, make this dish a spectacular highlight from the special menu.
I am a lover of chicken and waffles, and this one is one of the best I have had in a long while. I highly recommend pairing this greatness with a Hibiscus Mimosa, which is a floral Mimosa with a touch of cranberry.
Now to the crepes: to me, sweet crepes are so much more delicate than pancakes. Some say they are just a thin pancake, which is accurate, however, the main difference is they do not have baking powder and they are lighter and less dense. Technically a single crepe has fewer calories than a single pancake 😁
We rated them from most original to classic, and in order of our favorites.
The star of the show was the Toffee Toffee Cream Cream – Two Heath bar crepes generously filled with cream cheese and sweet cream filling, chocolate chips, and Heath bar pieces. Toasted Yolk always takes it to another level and tops it with homemade caramel, and more Heath bar pieces.

Perfect crepe for breakfast or even as a dessert to share. This one is for the person trying to satisfy your sweet tooth, think of a light cheesecake filling with a wonderful chocolate toffee crunch.
Nutella Berry Banana – Two strawberry and banana crepes, filled with Nutella, drizzled with homemade caramel, and dusted with powdered sugar.

As previously said, crepes have fewer calories and this one has fruit, so it’s healthy right? Well, that’s what I am going with and we all loved this one. Fresh fruit and Nutella, what’s not to love!
Last but not least was the Lemon Very Berry – Two lemon blueberry crepes, filled with a tart lemon filling and topped with fresh blueberries. Topped with a homemade blueberry compote and dusted in powdered sugar.

Summer rolled up in a crepe. The luscious blueberry compote and the tartness of the lemon make this a classic combination.
We all agreed, we want to come back for more and we are hoping that Toasted Yolk will keep that epic Arnie Yolk’s Chicken and Waffles on the menu long term.
