Local Restaurant Spotlight: Craft Grill Breakfast Club

By Nick Rama, Link Local Food Ambassador

The residents of Tomball, Creekside, Augusta Pines, Spring, and The Woodlands are very lucky to have a new Breakfast/brunch place in the area. Craft Grill Breakfast was recently opened by the owners of now four-year-old Craft Grill (Chris O’Donnell, Connie O’Donnell, Joseph Copus, and Patti Copus – all 25-year residents of the area). Craft Grill, who recently won the Greater Houston Restaurant Association People’s Choice Golden Fork Award the night before the soft opening of the Craft Grill Breakfast Club, is loved by many and their new breakfast spot is already off to a great start with an abundance of stellar reviews.

Craft Grill Breakfast Club is serving up a variety of Texas and Louisiana style Southern breakfast cuisine, in addition to coffee and seasonal cocktails. Conveniently located in the same shopping center as the original Craft Grill (25219 Kuykendahl Rd #G110, Tomball, TX 77375).

The atmosphere has many similarities to the original Craft Grill, just a little smaller. The walls are adorned with 120-year-old working windows that were reclaimed from a mansion owned by the late Doris Duke in Somerset, New Jersey and discovered online by Co-Founders Patti Copus and Connie O’Donnell. Rare and beautiful windows give the place a wonderful old school feel, in a new space. Some similar faces were brought over too, managers Joel Battle and Brianna Larkins can be found smiling at guests and making some very tasty coffee drinks, that would rival any coffee shop in the area.

Craft Grill menus include seven different benedict dishes, waffles, pancakes, French toast, omelets, and country classics like biscuits and gravy and chicken and biscuits.

The coffee is not your average diner coffee, Chris picked GEVA coffee which is owned by area locals, Chris George and his wife Shannon.  Craft Grill picked GEVA because the coffee is better than the competition in Chris O’Donnell’s opinion. Bought directly from Columbia the beans are fresher, 30 days old at most verses the national coffee retailers of 6 months.  Craft Grill Breakfast Club invested in a Lacimbali Espresso machine that was made in Italy and shipped directly to be serviced by GEVA.  Everything is available from espresso, cappuccino, lattes, cold brews, frappuccinos, nitro coffee on tap and much more.

What’s brunch without Bloody Marys and Mimosas? Craft Grill Breakfast Club has you covered with their cocktail’s menu, including flavored Mimosas (blueberry mint, strawberry kiwi, lemongrass passionfruit, or apple-pear), Proseccos and sangrias (peach tarragon or blackberry sage). Why not make your coffee boozy by adding a shot of (Kahlua, Bailey’s or Frangelico) or a shot of Irish Whiskey?

For a more intimate experience, Craft Grill Breakfast Club can host private events after 3 PM without the customary room fee charged by most establishments. A catering minimum is required, and fully trained and licensed bartenders will ensure your event goes off without a hitch! Contact the restaurant for more details on catering options.

Notable menu items include:

Fried Green Tomato and Crab Cake Benedict – 2 grilled Crab Cakes, 2 Fried Green Tomatoes, 2 Poached Eggs, Remoulade Sauce with a Cajun Hollandaise Sauce.

Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs – a hand-battered Chicken Fried Steak with Saw-mill Bacon Gravy, 2 Eggs, skillet-fried Potatoes, and a Buttermilk Biscuit! I chose over hard eggs on this visit.  Perfect sized breakfast/lunch portion CFS and was crispy, fork-tender, seasoned well and not greasy. The sawmill gravy was excellent with the little bits of bacon in it.
